City Park Improvement

Hagen Park Tennis Court and Island City Park Preserve (ICPP) Resurfacing

The asphalt tennis courts at Hagen Park and basketball court at the ICPP - COMPLETED Summer 2023

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Projects

The City completed the 47th-year CDBG project, which consisted of a new stormwater drainage system was installed along portions of NW 26th Street and NW 8th Avenue, just east of Powerline Road. 

The 48th-year project consists of the installation of energy-efficient lighting at the Hagen Park athletic courts - COMPLETED Summer 2023

Facility Painting 

The entryway and hallways at City Hall have been repainted as well as the exteriors of the structures at the following parks: Richardson Historic Park and Nature Preserve, Island City Park Preserve, Hagen Park.

Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater 

The sewer lines in the Manor Grove Condominiums have been replaced. 

New water main and service line replacements have been installed along NW 29th Street and sections of NW 30th Court. These projects are part of the City’s Water, Wastewater & Stormwater Integrated Master Plan and were partially funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). 

  • The NW 30th Court project is complete.
  • Sewer lining for the NW 29th Street project has been completed. The water main line and water meter service lines were replaced and fire hydrants were added between the eastern right-of-way on Andrews Avenue to NW 9th Terrace.

Roadway Improvements 

Sidewalk improvements were made on NE 24th Street and the intersection on NE 15th Avenue was raised.

Parking Lots

The repair, resealing, and restriping of the City Hall, Island City Cultural Center, and the Richard C. Sullivan Public Library parking lots has been completed. 

NW 29th Street 

NW 29th Street, from Powerline Road to Andrews Avenue, now has a two lane undivided section with 10’ travel lanes, 4’ bike lanes on both sides, and 5’ sidewalks on both sides.

The following improvements have been completed:

  • Milling and resurfacing the entire length of the Project; 1½ inch re-stripe, adding four-foot bike lanes and constructing sidewalk to fill-in gaps.
  • Existing patterned concrete was removed at three intersections and enhanced, raised crosswalks were installed. Detectable warning surfaces were provided at the existing sidewalks and curb ramp locations in addition to any proposed curb ramp locations.  All improvements meet the current ADA and FDOT standards.
  • Drainage structures were modified or replaced at widening.  Additionally, a French Drain system was provided as necessary to facilitate stormwater collection and swale storage.
  • The pedestrian crossing signals were upgraded to pedestrian countdown signals at the intersections of NW 29th Street/Andrews Avenue and NW 29th Street/Powerline Road.

Landscaping Improvements 

The Wilton Drive landscaping project has been completed. The beautification project along the Drive features new trees, shrubs, ground cover, and trash bins helping to ensure Life's Just Better and Greener Here.
