For non-certified applicants, your career will begin with extensive training at the Broward College Institute of Public Safety located in Davie, Florida. During the 22-week Police Academy, you will learn an array of subjects that will build your foundation preparing you to join our force as a certified police officer.
Following successful completion of the Police Academy, you will enter a 16-week Field Training program learning alongside our experienced Field Training Officers who will provide training, guidance, and support.
As your career evolves, you will be provided opportunities for promotion and qualify to perform in specialized areas such as K-9, community policing, marine patrol, criminal investigations, and others.

Pay & Benefits*
Salary – Police Officer Recruit
- $21.00 per hour / $43,680 a year
Salary – Certified Police Officer (Upon graduation from the Police Academy)
- Starting salaries for Certified Police Officer:
- $58,221 with less than 5 years of experience*
- $65,558 with 5 to 10 years of experience*
- $72,900 with 10 or more years of experience*
- Maximum salary for Certified Police Officer: $89,294*
* Incentive pay as eligible.
***SIGNING BONUS – CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICERS***
A certified officer hired into our agency will receive a $5,000 signing bonus upon successful completion of their Field Training.

Retirement Benefits - Pension
The City of Wilton Manors is a member of the Florida Retirement System (FRS). Officers become vested in the FRS after 8 years of service. A retired officer can collect 3% per year of their average 5 years of their highest salary at age 60, or after 30 total years of special risk service. FRS members can participate in a Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) offering a lump sum in addition to monthly retirement payments. Employee Health and Wellness
Employee health and wellness is our top priority. The law enforcement profession exposes our professionals to an array of emergency and traumatic situations. Our department, and the Police Benevolent Association (Union), provide health and wellness service benefits. In addition, we employ a Critical Incident Stress Management Team to support employees who handle traumatic incidents, or may need support for an array of scenarios.

Minimum Requirements
- Be a United States Citizen
- Be at least 19 years of age
- High school diploma, or G.E.D. under Florida Educational Standards
- Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License
- Be of good moral character
Other Requirements
- Must be fingerprinted by the Wilton Manors Police Department
- Must meet our drug testing standard
- Possess good reading comprehension, writing and communication skills
- Must pass an extensive pre-employment screening and background investigation
The Hiring Process
The following pre-application testing shall be completed at a Florida accredited law enforcement police academy or testing center approved by the City of Wilton Manors. Pre-Application Testing – Non-Certified:
- BMST (Basic Motor Skills Test) - within 6 months of applying.
- CJBAT (Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test) - test within four years of applying
- SWIM Test
Pre-Application Testing – Certified Police Officer:
- BMST (Basic Motor Skills Test) - within 6 months of applying.
- SWIM Test
Post-Application Hiring Process
- Oral Board Interview
- Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) Examination
